Parquet Floor Restoration for a Pub
The customer wanted to sand and varnish the existing, original parquet floor as part of their renovation of the pub before re-opening it under new ownership. The key for them was to bring back some of the life and character of the floor, which was a pitched pine in herringbone pattern.
We found the floor in decent condition for its age, but there were a number of sections that had come loose and needed re-fixing, while other parts of the floor were simply unusable.

The challenge for us was to piece together the repairs and replacement sections without making the floor look brand new, as that was one thing the client did not want. We also had a concrete channel running vertically along the floor that we chiselled out and replaced with pitched pine.
The floor itself was quite unlevel across most of the pub and it made sanding the blocks quite tricky, but using our hand sanding equipment we could bring up the blocks quite nicely without taking away any of the charm or character of the original floor.
Once the jigsaw-puzzle repairs and sanding process was complete, we finished the floor with Bona Traffic HD to protect it from the high foot fall around the bar, spilt drinks and dogs claws.

“The existing floor that Southern Cross came to work on was like a wonky patchwork quilt, which was quite unsafe given that it was in the middle of an about-to-reopen pub. But their knowledge of how to carefully restore and repair our original pine parquet turned the floor into a stunning centrepiece. The staff were friendly, dedicated and hard working and they perfectly captured the look we were aiming to achieve.”
